Conducting initial assessments, administering assessments, scoring and interpreting assessments, writing reports, liaising with stakeholders including families, support coordinators, medical professionals etc. Planning and implementing therapy.

Majority of my days have been taken up by non-billable admin tasks, or due to the time it takes for MedEbridge to operate, waiting for emails, documents etc to load. I may have 1 - 2 clients per day up to an hour travel away due to poor communication from participants.

As an occupational therapist, I usually see 1-4 clients daily and this involves travelling to see clients. I complete documentation after each session and may plan other sessions. I respond to emails and communicate with my colleagues or other stakeholders. I complete a lot of other admin tasks, such as requesting additional funding, chasing up service agreements, organising appointments and gaining access to schools.

Pros and cons of working at Ability Action Australia

Pros

  • The support from my supervisor and colleagues. I appreciate that the team try to cater your caseload to your interests and I feel heard.

  • I like the flexibility of working from home, and being a community business, having a wide range of workplaces such as in the community, homes, schools, workplaces etc.

  • The culture at work is amazing. During work hours, everyone is very social at lunch and we all chat in the lunch room or get coffee together during breaks.

  • There are a wide range of training available both face-to-face and online ones.

  • Supportive and inclusive team and opportunities for professional development.

Cons

    • We share the office space with other companies, and I occasionally feel like there is odd tension between the companies.

    • The pay is reasonable. I have not gotten the opportunity with bonuses yet.

    • The office space is good, but can be frustrating not having my own desk, as it is a hot desk system.

    • Office space can be a difficult space to focus on writing reports particularly when office is full of staff as there is no quiet space to divert to apart from working from home.

    • Bonuses are difficult to achieve due to KPI targets.
