The Role
We have an opportunity for a Structural Engineer Graduate to join our Bridges team.
As populations grow, so do demands for safe, expedient and cost-effective transportation. We work with clients around the world to build, modernize and expand transportation projects that carry all of our communities into the future — safely and reliably. Our integrated approach and social responsibility have earned us the trust of local municipalities, government agencies, commercial clients and public-private partnerships.
Bridges
AECOM’s tunnel and bridge specialists are internationally recognised for designing and managing construction on signature bridges and landmark tunnels around the world. Assist with tasks such as: Feasibility Study; Concept Design development; Detailed Structural Design and Documentation; Bridge Structural Integrity Assessment; Finite Elements Analysis; Structural Site Inspections; and On-site Works Supervision; Scheme Management. Contribute to the design and documentation of bridge structures from inception to completion, undertake the assessment of existing structures throughout the different stages such as on-site inspection and analysis, or manage the resources and tasks within a scheme of structures.
Minimum Requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated time management and organisational skills
- A strong sense of commitment, a willingness to learn, and a desire to work in a dynamic deadline-driven environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor degree (or higher) in Civil Engineering

Assisting with, and originating / checking engineering and non-engineering documents (calcs, datasheets, drawings, etc.)
Providing drafting and modelling for a range of projects, attending project meetings, minute taking, responding to internal emails, occasionally external emails, providing software support, coordinating internal teams, providing specialist advice for projects and bids
Super diverse, have been lucky enough to contribute to a wide range range of projects conducting a wide range of tasks. When you start, you'll likely have reasonably mundane tasks but as you build familiarity with the processes and rapport with project managers you will quickly get more challenging and interesting work.

Pros
The flexibility to work from home as I am completing a Masters so it is much easier to finish work and do uni from there rather than worry about commuting etc.
The culture across all teams is the best, AECOM hires GOOD people, not just technical people.
We get a wide range of projects so there is always something interesting to hear about and to participate in.
Great opportunities to network and meet the senior leaders within the company.
The flexibility with helping out in different teams during your graduate years helps you develop a variety of skills and explore which department might suit you best.
Cons
The pay is well below market rate.
Work alternates between being fast or slow, depending on projects won.
Lack of technical work initially, I have only just begun to be involved in technical work despite starting in early 2024.
The inconsistencies in the performance and rewards process.
There is a lot of pressure on billability, even when you cannot do much about it.
