Taking on meaningful work from day one, you'll be guided through a tailored training program which aims to accelerate your personal and professional development.

AMP welcomes diverse thinkers with entrepreneurial ambitions.

AMP Capital Global Distribution and Business Management (GDBM) graduate program aims to provide graduates diverse exposure across a range of disciplines, helping graduates to identify and hone their areas of expertise and interest across AMP Capital.

The GDBM stream is all about our clients, products, sales, marketing, communications, data, enterprise risk and strategy. The stream is ideally suited to graduates who are interested in joining AMP Capital and the investment management industry, but who do not necessarily have an interest in directly managing funds.

The GDBM business spans three divisions of AMP Capital:

  • Asia Pacific
  • Finance, Risk, Strategy & Technology
  • Public Markets

GDBM rotations:

The GDBM two-year graduate program begins in February 2021 and provides an opportunity for graduates to complete four, six-monthly rotations across a variety of areas. Certain rotations will involve close collaboration with our AMP Capital offshore offices. Potential rotations may include:

"If I had to use one word to describe the Global Distribution & Business Management stream, it would be exposure. The breadth of rotations on offer mean you will have the opportunity to work across business lines, building both an inimitable knowledge of how a large diversified investment manager works, as well as strong networks that will hold you in good stead in your day to day as well as longer term. As someone who gravitates toward strategic issues and solving business problems, I found rotations in business transformation and strategy highly stimulating, while rotations in investment risk & performance and product development provided foundational knowledge of AMP Capital's core functions and processes.
Following the graduate program, I have had the opportunity to lead several strategic initiatives, including organisational restructures and a major ESG initiative. More recently, I have relocated to AMP Capital's London office, and support AMP Capital's Global Head of Infrastructure Equity with strategy, projects and day to day business management." John, GDBM Graduate 2017, Current Role – Business Associate, North-West Region (London).

In the morning and afternoon, I go through all the reported phishing emails and classify them into an appropriate category (Clean, low-risk, suspicious, phish, etc). I also go through the email quarantine and assess if any emails have been caught in the quarantine that are deemed legitimate and release them. I check service now and digital shadows and analyse the impersonating domain alerts or exposed credentials and remediate these tasks. Then depending on the week, I receive different tasks to complete within the CDAR team or wider CDC community and follow up with associated colleagues after to further my knowledge.

Pros and cons of working at AMP

Pros

  • The people and culture of the workplace is awesome. Everyone I have interacted with has been wonderful and ready to lend a hand if I ever need it.

  • The degree of flexibility & development opportunities available.

  • Rotational structure gives grads exposure to different teams. Having a small grad cohort brings us closer together. Big focus on development.

  • One of the best things about working at AMP is the friendly, amazing community and workplace culture. Working at AMP has given me the opportunity develop my personal and professional skills significantly especially with the mentorship the teams at AMP provides. Since the beginning, I felt supported every step of the way. My team and peers provide amazing support and training across various business units, and working at such a collaborative environment allows me to explore different aspects and gain a greater understanding of AMP's operations.

Cons

    • There is always a lot going and the level of communication around this fluctuates. This can make it hard to get a clear picture of what is happening in the business as sometimes you have very little information or lots of noise to sort through.

    • I don't dislike anything about the company. I do think the grad program could be potentially shortened to 18 months, rather than 2 years.

    • Employee incentives could be better - although the view is pretty nice.

    • Some personnel changes/ layoffs due to company change.
