As a Graduate: Health and Hygiene within Anglo American you will be part of an experienced team that has pioneered the way mine sites perceive occupational health and learn how to deliver best practice occupational health services and support to the mine. You will learn how to assist in the identification, evaluation and control of workplace exposure hazards and improvement of health and hygiene management within the greater health and safety management systems of sites.  You will support our Zero Harm vision, ensuring compliance with all health process, systems and legislation, including occupational health exposure management, fitness for work, injury management and workplace rehabilitation, health risk management and health promotion This position sees you be part of a network of professionals following a structured graduate program to assist in the successful development of a professional career in the health and hygiene department in mining.

You will have the opportunity and guidance in this role to contribute to the effective management of safety, health, and technical projects. You will work together with experienced teams in preventative and reactive functions within occupational health, actively engaging daily with all Anglo Americans Teams and workforces to drive health initiatives to improve people’s lives. This unique opportunity provides you with an entry level opportunity into the diverse and ever-changing health and hygiene world within the coal mining sector.

This is a permanent opportunity for graduates who want to have a smarter future within mining. Initially, you will be offered a two-year graduate programme with Metallurgical Coal rotating to one or more of our sites located across Queensland (two twelve-month placements). You have the chance to make a difference in real projects and work across open cut and underground mining.

To qualify for the Anglo American Graduate Programme, you must:  

  • Have a degree or postgraduate degree (Honours or Masters) in disciplines relevant to Occupational Health, such as occupational hygiene or health sciences including nursing, occupational therapy, or physiotherapy.
  • Have completed your degree within the last 2 years or are due to graduate by December 2023.
  • Have no more than two years of relevant work experience.
  • Be a team player with strong leadership potential.
  • Demonstrate drive, ambition and a passion for challenging work in our operations.
  • Be available/willing to work in remote areas of Central Queensland as part of the Graduate Programme (relocation package provided).

What to Expect

  • The first stage of the recruitment process is a review of your CV.
  • Should you pass the initial screening stage, you will be invited to complete an on-demand video interview and game-based psychometric test where we will test your motivations and competencies for the role.
  • The next stage will be a phone interview with one of our Recruiters.
  • Then if successful you will be invited to our Assessment Centre with all the potential candidates.

Background checks

Successful candidates will be required to complete background screening which may include a criminal check and validation of qualifications.
