Pros and cons of working at Austal Australia

Pros

  • The diversity of work/rotations available to do during the Graduate Program.

  • The work hours are flexible, and I enjoy working 9 days over a fortnight to have Friday off every second week.

  • The company has an open-door policy... coordination and teamwork... everyone has the same goal.

  • The graduate program provides us with a lot of offsite training and workshops to build ourselves with non-technical aspects.

  • There are a lot of opportunities for us to go into a more permanent role, and the graduate program is set up to develop us into an employee that they want to retain.

Cons

    • The Graduate program is heavily male-dominated.

    • As a temporary visa holder, it does feel uneasy that the company does not provide sponsorships for internationals.

    • The noise from the facilities does come through the walls often and could be a bother for the office people.

    • The pay is fair as a starting point, however, it would be better for the company to individually assess the skillset and educational level of the candidate.

    • It would be good to see more females in the Graduate program.
