As a General Surgeon in the Army Reserve, you will work as a Medical Procedural Specialist within the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps (RAAMC), administering appropriate clinical care to patients in a Defence facility or field environment. General Surgeons are integral to the continuum of health care provided to ADF members and the Australian Army actively seeks qualified specialists to serve in a Reserve capacity.

You will perform your surgical duties in a broad spectrum of environments and will be required to adapt to a range of workplace conditions and perform your duties wherever a casualty/patient exists. Normal working conditions will be those encountered on operations, training exercises and in barracks. You will, by nature, be able communicate effectively when working with civilian and international force elements.

As a General Surgeon, you will be allocated to the Army's designated health Reserve unit, the 3rd Health Support Battalion (3 HSB), which has units located in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart, Adelaide and Perth. You will complete Module 1 of the Specialist Service Officer course at the Royal Military College, Duntroon in Canberra. This 9 day course will equip you with the fundamental knowledge of leadership, basic military skills and ideals of officer behaviour and attitudes.

The pay you receive in the Army Reserve has no deductions for tax with daily pay rates being as high as $778.19 per day. You must be able to commit to and serve 20 days per annum minimum as an Army Reserve member. You may serve until the age of 65 and may transfer out of the active Army Reserve at any time.
Citizenship, security clearance, medical and fitness requirements will be conducted as part of the recruitment process.
