Your role:

As an Army Reserve Orthopaedic Surgeon, you'll be part of an elite medical team serving our country's Defence Force. This is a part-time position that will allow you to give back and help others, all without giving up your day job. You'll join other medical professionals of different skillsets to look after the health and wellbeing of the men and women who serve our country.

This is a specialist position within the Army Reserve that wouldn't be too far from what you experience in your current civilian clinical role. You'll perform a range of different tasks such as assessing patient needs, performing emergency treatment, and monitoring the ongoing health and healing of patients.

The difference to this role comes from the working conditions and types of injuries you could be attending to. You may be exposed to demanding situations and be required to provide emergency care in garrison and in field hospitals.

With challenges beyond what you experience in everyday surgical life, this is the perfect opportunity for those who want to expand their skillset and work in a challenging new environment.

Wage:

The pay you receive in the Army Reserve goes straight into your pocket with no deductions for tax, and it increases as you gain seniority and experience.
You could earn a tax-free rate starting at $540.15 per day.

Life in the Army Reserve:

Thousands of men and women enjoy part-time roles with the Army Reserve, operating alongside full-time Army personnel. The only difference is that your commitment is flexible.

Initial training length will vary based on your chosen role, after which you will normally be expected to serve between 20 and 70 days a year. This could involve an evening each week and one weekend a month, and even extended periods away.

We do our best to make sure this fits in with your work and family commitments; and deployments are voluntary so if you choose to stay local, there are plenty of ways to make a difference closer to home. And with no minimum period of service, you can leave the Army Reserve whenever you like.

Apply Now:

For this role, you must be qualified and unconditionally registered as an Orthopaedic Surgeon with AHPRA within Australia.
