Training & Personal Development at BDO Australia

We had an intensive training period at the start of the year, and now we have weekly training on various topics.

There was no formal training and can feel unstructured in this area

The training is great, I have learned a lot in my time here.

Trained internally very often

Being assigned a buddy who is in a management position has ensured that I am constantly given feedback and can have any questions I have answered immediately. Consistent check ins with more senior managers offer timely feedback and also give me an opportunity to provide feedback of my own

I have been to interstate training. It was really fun. And we also have in house training and on job training. If not understand something, i will ask my manager.

It has been great so far, but I have not done many trainings yet so I cannot give an accurate rate on this question.

The guides prepared by previous graduates were extremely helpful and clear.

Good balance between training and development and on the job training. I am very satisfied with the amount of training that I have done and that most was very useful for my role.

In the first month of employment, the company will provide training for all new employees, including understanding and how to use the company's systems and some case studies. I learned a lot and strengthened my excel skills and gained expertise knowledges.

Training on tax principles as well as more specific R&D tax cases and rulings Buddy assigned who has responsibility for showing you the ropes Microsoft excel training provided to improve efficiency (shortcuts, macros etc.) Primary areas of improvement have been Excel skills and time management.

My team have been very trusting and helpful since I started at BDO which allowed me to get straight into the work and learn new things first hand. This includes things from professional writing to more in-depth learning through completing various client engagements which enabled me to learn more technical cyber related content. By working in a team of various levels, these daily engagements enable you to learn new things easily through discussions with the team and clients.

The mandatory training modules are great - they ensure all workers understand BDO values, expectations and other specific topics.

Tax team has weekly tax training on latest tax cases. There's also training on basic tax knowledge we need to complete our tasks.

Formal training is good, what you'd expect of a firm of this size. Informal training is good, but suppose this would depend on the team's culture, for me, it has been good and relatively quick/easy.

Formal training is very dry

Had the chance to speak to all the people in BDO (as well as Partners / Directors). Full picture of the company was presented, and the introduction was very informative. Informal training provided by Manager is very good as well. Each task is concisely showed and even explained the reasons behinh each action.

The initial training is rather sub par, says nothing and provides no meaningful information. All development has come from on hand experience and seminars with business partners and industry exposure

We have training for three months every Friday for about 3hrs 30min

All graduates were invited to attend a four day tax training seminar in Sydney. The programme was helpful in preparing us for the type of work that we would be doing (e.g. fbt, CGT, taxation of trusts).
