We work with our stakeholders and clients to administer our schemes and provide regulatory services of the highest standard. Our agency offers challenging and rewarding work in administering legislation that will reduce carbon emissions and increase the use of clean energy.
The Clean Energy Regulator Graduate Development Program will provide graduates with the opportunity to develop a well-rounded knowledge of the work of the agency, gain experience in the public sector and foster an understanding of Australia’s biggest policy developments.
Participants of the 2023 Graduate Program will experience:
During the program, you will be provided with the skills required to launch your APS career. Through participation in the program, graduates will gain relevant knowledge and skills in government administration as well as the expertise required to be effective technical specialists within the agency.
In addition to formal training, you will receive individual support from your buddy (a former graduate), mentor and the Graduate Coordinator. As a graduate, you will have the opportunity to be involved in events management as part of the agency’s social club.
During your graduate year, you will work across 3 areas of the agency. This rotation structure allows us to give our graduates a wide range of experience and knowledge. Graduates will develop an understanding of the agency’s work in the administration of climate change policies and the regulation of carbon and renewable energy markets.
To be eligible for this program, you will need to:
Minimum requirements – Credit average, demonstration of the core aptitudes required of the role and an Australian Citizen.
Reasonable adjustment – We are committed to helping all applicants who may require reasonable adjustments to undertake each assessment stage of the process. Applicants should advise if any reasonable adjustments are required throughout the selection process.
I have meaningful work taskings. My day-to-day work involves a combination of process driven tasks and longer term project work. It has a good mix of collaborative times and independent autonomy.
As a graduate, you are exposed to a number of different areas within the agency.
My role involves analysis of data and other information from industrial facilities that emit greenhouse gas emissions.

Government & Public Service
Everything we do is connected to measuring, managing, reducing or offsetting Australia’s carbon emissions.
The people are great to work with, and the work is interesting and engaging.
Knowing that you're playing (a very small) part in tackling climate change is rewarding.
Interesting work that aligns with my personal values.
Positive work culture and team environment. The size of the agency is really great - right in the goldilocks zone. Rewarding and intellectually stimulating work.
The agency administers some of the government's climate change policies, but is less influential in driving the design of those policies in the first place.
