As a graduate with Essential Energy you will be working as part of a supportive team to kick start your career with our three-year program and be part of exciting projects, using cutting edge technology in an industry that is going through an exciting transition, all while gaining valuable on-the-job experience.
Graduate Opportunities
We currently have opportunities in our 2024 Graduate Program for several Graduates who have completed or will have completed by January 2024 a Bachelor of Engineering (major in Electrical Engineering). These positions will ideally be based in Port Macquarie, however other locations in our geographical footprint will be considered.
You will have the opportunity to work with industry experts to have a direct impact on the energy transition to renewables, providing great outcomes for customers in regional NSW. As part of the graduate program, you will undertake rotations across the different areas of the business to learn about all aspects of Electrical Engineering within Essential Energy.
You’ll be part of a program with Engineers Australia and have mentorship from within Essential Energy to develop and reach your goals. Your ability to take advantage of a fast-paced environment in varied parts of the business will build your technical expertise and professional networks ensuring great opportunities now and in the future.

The Graduate Program officially starts in February 2024, however an earlier start is available is available for candidates who are keen to start sooner.

Day to day of a cyber graduate differs from team to team. Threat and Vulnerability Management - Digest bulletins to determine if certain published vulnerabilities could potential impact Essential Energy - Create assessments and send it to relevant stakeholders to ensure the affected assets are patched - Research the current threat landscape relating to Essential Energy and the Industry for weekly threat briefing - Monitor channels for exposed credentials and carry out appropriate actions to ensure it doesn't become a threat vector for criminals - Ad-hoc tasks relating to the team Security Operations - Triage alerts relating to unusual user behaviour - Triage alerts reported by employees as potentially malicious - Utilise existing toolset to conduct investigations into whether or not an alert is a threat to Essential Energy

Pros

It's a very collaborative environment so you'll be able to meet a lot of people with differing areas of expertise.
Cons
It is a huge company and hard to get visibility of what is happening outside of your division.
The time it takes to get required access.
As everyone is so spread apart, you might not have the chance to meet everybody face to face.
The office space wasn't very inviting. The actual property is outdated and bland.
Cost of living does make it hard to comment on this, more is always better but I believe we're at least competitive with the rest of the market.
