Application Process & Interviews at GHD

The process was not very streamlined. I was interviewed by one team, they decided that I was not suitable for the role. I then had to do a phone interview with another team. However, the HR team were very proactive, in informing me that I had been successful, and getting my contract sorted.

One phone, a few questionnaires and call One interview. It made me feel accomplished when I got the job.

Straightforward. Online application, phone call, interview then Job offer after 1 week. However, it took long time till i heard back after submitting online application.

Took a long time

There was an online form to complete, then a video then in-person interview. I was allowed the opportunity to complete the in-person interview over video call since I was interstate which was very appreciated. I was also given a response to my interview very quickly which was very helpful as I had asked what the turnaround would be since I had other offers to consider, and it was significantly faster than predicted. Compared to other company grad programs I applied to, it seemed like a pretty standard process.

The interview process was very straightforward and the buddy that contacted me was very friendly and approachable, I felt I could ask him any questions and he would gladly answer. He was also available to chat regularly, or if not would call back in a timely manner. The interview itself was well prepared and the people in the room were all very welcoming and friendly.

I went from summer intern to part time undergraduate whilst finishing university to now a full time graduate

The interview and assessment process was fairly standard relative to other graduate application processes I went through. The live interview was via MS Teams with three members from the team which felt quite relaxed and friendly. After the interview I was invited to have a casual coffee catchup with some of the team which helped myself and the team to make sure we were good fits for each other before formally accepting the position

I had one informal interview and didn't hear back for 2-3 months with an offer.

The hiring process was relevantly easy and fast. When I first applied I had a follow up in a next of weeks and an interview shortly after that.

The assessments and interview was straightforward.

I found the interview process great. Clear questions, and it didn't feel like an interview, more like a conversation. I had opportunities to ask my own questions. Afterwards, they were clear about response timeframes etc and I started working quickly, which I appreciated.

Interview process and assessments were good. It was good to have the opportunity to retake video answers, made it a lot less stressful. Communication on the outcomes of the interview weren't as good. I didn't know I had the job until December.

Seemed abit extensive and 'to the book'. A more casual conversation in person i feel would have been better

I enjoyed having people from my team at the interview. It made a big difference to me that they were women and of varying ages / parts of their career journey.

Interview process as one of the easiest from all i applied to. Heard back sooner than most at each stage, and was offered this position first.

Mine was very atypical and short. I can't comment as seems to be different to my peers.

The interview process was easy and simple. I did an online application and then had one in-person interview. The TA manager and Team leader who interviewed me were very nice and it was just a casual conversation as such.

I was initially in contact with a people person before I joined the company and then all contact ceased and never heard from them again. When I re-applied, the manager saw my name and mentioned he didnt know what had happened and put me straight through to an interview.

Prior job experience. How I tackled difficult situations previously.

Introduce yourself. Interests project you like to work on (search company projects and tell them what projects interests you) what do you know about the company? tell us about a time you worked under pressure? how do you priorities your work? tell us about your work history? Commencement day was also discussed (even though graduate program starts in Jan but the company flexible and you may be able to start earlier if agreed and if company have capacity)

Experience, how I manage certain challenges and situations, awareness of what the company business group does

Introduce yourself briefly (studies, hobbies, interests etc) and include something we wouldn't know about you from your application. GHD is a global consulting business - what are the key skills you believe are required for a successful consultant? What motivated you to be a consultant? What types of projects are you passionate about getting involved in? How would you handle a mistake that means you have to go back and redo a lot of work, whilst still trying to meet your deadline? Why do you want to join GHD?

Questions were mainly based around how I would react in certain situations, to show my aptitude for change and my resilience when difficult tasks are required or can't be completed, how would I communicate this and/or work around it.

It was over a year ago, its hard to remember. Standard interview things from memory

Honestly, i don't remember because there was a lot of technical online interruptions from the interviewer. Towards the end, there was good conversation. I asked them what the role was like and if there was a good company culture.

I was asked some standard HR questions ("Situation - Task - Action - Result" style) and some more technical questions. I was also asked some questions to gauge my fit for a consulting role, including my ability to explain somewhat complex technical concepts in a layperson's terms.

The interview was good, some technical questions but most were about teamwork and experience I have. Also about what sort of engineering I would like to do to make sure my expectations matched the position.

Typical questions such as what's going on with uni, some STAR method exercises, and what I was looking for in a workplace

Mostly just asked to give background on myself, work and school experience and relevant skills.

What are my areas of interest? Why do I want to be an engineer? Why GHD? What are my hobbies?

Imagine I have never seen or used a vending machine before. Could you explain to me what it is and how to use it?

They asked about my travel experiences and learning journey which I appreciated. It felt really genuine.

Was a very informal interview (peak initial wave of covid where no one was in office). Was more about getting to know the person which was good.

I was asked about my experience relevant to the role, my interests and examples of where I had shown certain soft and hard skills.

Look at 1-2 projects that interest you at the company to show interest. I wasn't asked questions based on the company's projects to quiz me. Be bright and warm with your interviewers, they are nice people.

search the company well before the interview. Be confident. Prepare examples to support your answers for situational questions from your work and/or university. Eye contact

Know the industry you're applying to

Be genuine, discuss the things you are passionate about - both work and extracurricular - and the skills you've learnt from them. Look into the sorts of projects GHD has done in that area and note any that particularly catch your attention. Also have some questions to ask yourself if you make it to the in-person interview - about the culture, process, projects, or whatever caught your interest.

Maybe give insight of what consulting can be like. Doing lots of new things and things that may put your our of your comfort zone. Anything goes, really.

I would recommend doing some research before the interview process of common questions and prepare answers in advance, so you aren't having to think on your feet, keep a record of your best projects and or reports for evidence of your ability to perform the tasks required for the job and be kind and courteous during the interview process.

I would say show an eagerness and passion for the type of work, its what my biggest strength was

In terms of preparation it's helpful to think about past experiences in prior jobs and at university and how to discuss challenging or rewarding situations that they've faced in a structured and meaningful way (i.e., STAR response). During the interview itself, it's important to remember to smile and be yourself as much as possible while also being professional - the team want to know they're bringing in a person they can relate to, and enjoy having around in the office / working alongside through the years to come rather than a robot!

Look on the company website, find teams or departments you would like to work with, look at their recent projects and find what you like and could talk about, look at the company values. Bring some questions to ask of the interviewers. Try to align your personal life with the job requirements in the interview, show how your life has brought you to this moment and why your lived experiences will make you a capable and valuable employee.

Read up about the department you're applying for, their projects etc. See what excites you and ask about this. Think about how your skills suit you for undertaking the project that excites you.

I would recommend going to some industry events and trying to meet some of the people in your future team before hand or connecting on linked in so people can put a face to the name/learn a bit about you so that you stand out

Just be confident in yourself and be prepared for personality related questions or questions about being a good fit for the role more than technical questions (which if you're a grad is shown in your academic transcript).

If they're graduates, that it's okay to not be good at everything or know how to do everything all at once. Stay persistent, and don't be afraid to ask the 'stupid questions.' You're responsible for your own understanding of your role and what comes with it (to a degree of course)

Look back through previous experiences and reflect, find lessons learnt and see how to do it better next time.

Research projects and information about the company and have your own questions prepared about what will be expected of you etc.

Do some research on the company and identify why you're interested. Get a good night's sleep and don't overthink it.

Prepare a couple of questions you have about the position or workplace and try to make them specific or unique to the job. Practice running through a couple standard interview questions. Have your academic transcript open or any experience you have so you can easily refer to that.

Know the core tasks of the department you are applying into, and do some background reading on that discipline so you aren't totally mystified when you start.

Be yourself and answer truthfully. GHD will want to place you where you will best fit.
