There is no better place to learn than G+T. Nothing beats the sheer volume of experience you will obtain here but the firm also has multiple training programs for lawyers at all stages of their career from how to draft legal documents to building your personal brand and using generative AI at work.
Lawyer, Sydney - 11 Sep 2024
Lots of formal training available, colleagues often give informal training. More difficult to get team training from partners (given busy workloads)
Junior, Sydney - 11 Sep 2024
There is a significant investment on your training and development at both a clerkship and graduate level. There are masterclasses held for all practice groups, formal and informal feedback sessions. Graduate training sessions as well as whole of firm training and CPD sessions. There have been no issues with seeking out resources for my continued improvement. I think this is a particular area that G+T excels in.
Lawyer, Perth - 09 Sep 2024
The Banking team has specific training provided at times throughout the year. I am also lucky to work under some fantastic lawyers who are continually training me on the go.
4 PQE, Sydney - 02 Sep 2024
We have a very robust training system with lots of in person and online training that we are required to do as part of the graduate program. Additionally, a lot of training is done on the job more informally as we are instructed to do unfamiliar tasks as a learning experience
Graduate, Sydney - 30 Aug 2024
There is heaps of training, I find it more useful the further along I go in my career as I like to do it in practice first and then finesse through training. There is also lots of support to learn on the job - mistakes are expected and accepted.
Mid-level lawyer, Perth - 29 Aug 2024
There are formal training programs for graduates and lawyers at all levels. Most of the training is provided on the job through informal coaching. Mentoring also plays a big part in learning and development.
Mid Lawyer, Sydney - 28 Aug 2024
Formal training is structured and efficient - does the job but wouldn't say it is out of this world.
Information training however is great. A real culture of hands on teaching and guidance, including on-the-job learning that is free of fear of messing up.
Lawyer, Melbourne - 28 Aug 2024
There are plenty of training opportunities at the firm and team levels.
Graduate, Melbourne - 09 Nov 2023
Outside the intensive training week, we have formal graduate training and formal training sessions specific to my practice group. Seniors that I have worked with have also run me through informal training sessions which are relevant to my tasks.
Graduate, Sydney - 06 Nov 2023
The formal graduate training process gives junior lawyers the broad skills needed to succeed across practice groups, for example through training sessions on drafting and legal research. Additionally, training sessions on oft used areas of law such as contracts and practice group focused training sessions (for example, overview of IP law for grads in the IP team) provide juniors with the basic understanding needed to get started in their new roles. Informal training, is constantly provided through task instructions and constructive feedback by everyone in the team. Junior lawyers and graduates are encouraged to be curious and inquisitive and raise any questions/queries they have to further assist with the development of their knowledge and skills. Additionally, each practice group has a Knowledge Lawyer that junior lawyers and graduates can approach with any query, thereby enabling further informal training.
Graduate, Sydney - 02 Nov 2023
As a grad, we had a 3-day induction which was pretty useful. Beyond that, we have had a few formal trainings scheduled in and there is always G+T Academy available for further learning. As for informal training, there is the opportunity to ask and learn from lawyers around you, but it is not necessarily something presented to you.
Graduate, Sydney - 30 Oct 2023
We have a huge number of training sessions available for lawyers at all stages - whether this is practice-specific training, or general risk and compliance training, Microsoft office training, we have everything available. If there is something specific required, you can easily reach out to knowledge lawyers or the relevant business development team to request a training session on a particular topic, and they will be happy to provide.
Graduate, Sydney - 26 Oct 2023
We have been offered lots of training and development programs which have allowed us to develop our skills across a broad range of areas. There is a good mix of formal training and on the job training which is important for properly developing skills learnt. There is also a good mix of general training that helps us develop as lawyers as well as practice area specific training
Junior Lawyer, Sydney - 26 Oct 2023
The training implemented is very pragmatic and thorough. Through informal training with my mentor, I have developed my ability to approach, critique and better my own work.
Graduate, Sydney - 25 Oct 2023
Training for lawyers is great, training for other staff e.g.: paralegals is next to non-existent
Graduate, Sydney - 24 Oct 2023
There are lots of training for new starters and this continues as you progress through your time at G+T, I have at least one training a week!
Graduate, Sydney - 24 Oct 2023
We have consistent training for junior lawyers and graduates on different areas of the law in the practice group we are rotating within.
Graduate, Melbourne - 24 Oct 2023
Formal training is great.
I think sometimes the 'informal' training is really valuable, but sometimes others don't have the time to fully explain what is necessary within a particular situation.
Graduate, Sydney - 24 Oct 2023
The training is generally quite good, mainly for clerks and graduates during their induction program. More specific training to focus on the actual day-to-day tasks of juniors would be the next big improvement.
Graduate, Sydney - 21 Sep 2017
