Honeywell Building Solutions installs, integrates and maintains the systems that keep facilities safe, secure, comfortable, productive and energy-efficient. This area of domain expertise extends from Smart Buildings, Critical Infrastructure (Airports, Security Installations, Correctional Facilities) to Smart Cities that employ highly technical solutions involving the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence and Big Data Analytics in attempts to improve the quality of life for the people whilst maintaining robust, interrupt free and sustainable operating infrastructure.

The Graduate Service Engineer opportunity in Honeywell Building Solutions is focused on the delivery of work to existing customer sites. The service graduate role is responsible for servicing customer sites, maximising customer satisfaction and minimising customer site downtime by providing exceptional support. You will work with critical building management systems, HVAC systems, networking and security systems often on-site, learning to make decisions and run customer sites with less hands-on guidance. This may include installing and maintaining building automation, security, life safety and energy management systems. You will become a trusted service advisor to our variety of customers. You'll enjoy a wide range of experiences across commercial and government buildings, health care facilities, airports and correction facilities.


Your duties will include:

  • Service maintenance and repair of HVAC, CCTV, Access Control, Security, and Third-Party Systems
  • Project management of service projects and small works including a high level of customer management and ensuring project milestones are achieved.
  • Technical consulting, design and implementation support to the service business and customers. This includes pre-sales support to the account team and technical lead on implementation projects
  • Ensuring customer satisfaction through direct liaison with client representatives, customers and service recipients
  • Assist with HSE assessments and safety plans for designated sites and ensure they are carried out and updated as per the Honeywell HSE policies
  • Working with customers to address the customer's technical and application requirements to ultimately provide an accurate cost of the solution.
  • Development and maintenance of site-specific documentation and quality assurance information as required by the Service Manager.


This role involves regular travel to customer sites. You'll often be somewhere different and will have the chance to work with a variety of customers.

Please note this role will involve regular domestic travel to customer sites.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant Undergraduate Degree – Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronic) completed in the 2 years preceding the start date for the Graduate role, February 2020.


Desirable:

  • 3 months of work experience
  • Must have an interest in ICT and Networking

Could be anything from writing a project proposal, to doing drawings, scoping and spacing the engineering of a new project, being on site decommission a site, establishing a new site, servicing an existing site, meeting with stakeholders and clients, meetings with business leaders, or formal training to upskill.

In general Honeywell takes care to ease you into your career and work with little stress, this can be a double-edged sword as confident and eager graduates may find Handover of responsibility can be slow. 4 months into the program I have completed a lot of training with more still to go which at times can make you feel like you're still at uni. But I have been shadowing & helping with the fulfilment of a massive project, with the prospect of much more to come.

Currently my day-to-day responsibilities evolve around upskilling myself my attending training's to better understand the application/services we provide our customers. I also work on conducting system analyses of site systems and creating estimates for software upgrades to provide to respective account managers. Some of my key day-to-day responsibilities as I learn all the technical aspects of my role will be to perform system upgrades at various sites to provide customers with Honeywell's latest HBS applications and services, and resolve technical issues that arise with applications.

  • Given the size of the company, there seems to be an opportunity for a lot of career progression/development, and lateral and vertical movements within the company seem possible. 2. Additionally, the team that I work with currently is highly supportive and the managers value my development.

  • The ability to quickly jump into working or real-world projects and sites whilst shadowing industry professionals who have a lot to teach you.

  • Professional exposure and growth opportunities. Honeywell has a wealth of incredibly smart employees across the globe across all incredibly diverse parts of the business who are willing to impart knowledge to you and give you opportunities if you work hard and reach out.

Cons

    • There are lots of procedures, but this is common to most big companies.

    • Steep learning curve if you haven't been exposed to the type of work but the Honeywell staff/team is super supportive.

    • I was hoping for a high-rise office in the middle of the city.

    • While Honeywell is an amasing place to work, the most challenging aspect can be the high expectations and fast-paced nature of the projects. Managing multiple responsibilities and ensuring top-quality results can be demanding, especially when juggling tight deadlines. However, this challenge is also an opportunity for growth, pushing me to develop better time management and problem-solving skills. The supportive team and access to resources help mitigate these challenges, turning them into valuable learning experiences.
