Training & Personal Development at Iress

8.2
8.2 rating for Training, based on 26 reviews
Please describe the training programmes at your company and tell us what skills you've picked up.
There are some good training programmes, but there could be a more technically directed training programme for coding that could be done online or something.

Iress actively arranges lots of training events. The only concern is not all of them are very useful for day to day job.

New employees are brought up to speed with many training sessions on various important development topics. Also training for how to use the software we create. Plus various other personal development sessions.

I didn't have any formal technical training. In the first a few months, me and other graduates had a few training sessions about all the products within our company, but very basic and not technical. I think i learned more from day to day development work.

The company offers rounds of formal training which range from incredibly valuable to well meaning but sometimes misguided (which mainly comes from repetition due to a fluctuating hr and learning development staff). The best sessions are normally the sessions you can opt in for, rather than the prescribed ones. The informal, on the job, training is fantastic. Team leaders and knowledgeable developers are more than happy to give tips, feedback, and impart valuable knowledge. I learnt more about coding in 3 months from my team lead than i did in my entire university degree.

Formal training is a bit underwhelming. Informal is excellent as everyone is willing to explain things to you the instant you ask.

Not sure if this is a reflection on the programmes or just how i learn but i generally find learning and development sessions to be a waste of time. The two coding exercises i did as training were 50% helpful 50% irrelevant.

Formal training was quite limited when i started, i think they're improving it though. After a few initial technical training workshops, there were a few soft skill workshops throughout the program.

Training includes induction week plus programming exercises. I have learned much about programming since i started work at my company.

It's more like a self-learning process and i have a more clear understanding about common use platforms and base code.

Company organise events for knowledge sharing, however self-discipline is required.

Formal training is probably not the greatest, we didn't really have any when i was starting. The latest grads have formal training but from what i've seen it can be a little irrelevant (i. E c++ lessons for testing engineers who are realistically not going to be using them) informal training is excellent due to the company culture. People are always willing to explain new things or assist you in developing a greater understanding of the product and the technical areas.

Training programs are available, but the advertising of them is shocking.

The company definitely invests time and money on improving their employees

There are training workshops from time to time (e. G. How to use aws) and we have free access to an online training platform.
