We have an exciting opportunity for an Intern Geotechnical Engineer / Engineering Geologist to join our Brisbane Ground Engineering & Tunnelling team this summer. Reporting to the Ground Engineering & Tunnelling Section Lead, you’ll work across a number of consulting projects and assist our team with project work including planning and undertaking site investigations, HSE planning, geotechnical design, undertaking basic geotechnical problems, development of reports and assisting our clients. We offer a supportive team environment that will continue your professional development from university – and we’ll mentor you each step of the way to ensure you’re set up for success.
Ideally, you’re in your penultimate year at university studying Civil Engineering (majoring in Geotechnical Engineering), Geology (with Engineering) or Engineering Geology and possess an interest in Ground Engineering. This is a unique role that requires applicants to hold the right to work in Australia. The role is aligned with expectations with a variety of projects, teams, clients, and levels of detail.
Gets to design stuff from the start. If you like project management-type of work -go for it. Personally, I prefer design, so I let my team leader know that. Whenever something interesting comes up, he lets me know and checks if I might be interested in being involved.
My personal responsibilities are slightly less technical than I would like but I am still involved with very interesting work

Growth prospects, I am consistently guided on the best ways to grow and develop in my role. I have involvement in a variety of projects of different sizes with great autonomy, allowing me to learn quickly.
IT support is slow
As a smaller office in a large company, it often feels like we are left out from the rest of the company and that there can be a disconnect at times.
Hot desking - would be nice to have designated areas for the teams (as in the 10 desks here are all for X team)
Unpredictability of hours during projects however this is the nature of consulting.
