Not very transparent and it was slow

Standard online application, followed by online video interview (recording answers to interview questions), followed by an assessment centre session (group activities, presentations, written tests and a 1-on-1 interview)

Despite being a lengthy process - as all graduate applications are, HR were quick to respond and the entire process was completed in under a month! The assessment centre was fun and only took 3 hours as opposed to other ones I have been to. It was an enjoyable and challenging experience which made receiving an offer so much more rewarding!

The interview process; starting with an online application, a follow up online interview, and finally concluding with an assessment centre. The assessment centre focused on your ability to write and communicate coherently, and also communicate and build working relationships with those you are communicating with.

Video interview and group interview

Tough, video interview was very awkward, practice questions did not help at all.

It was tedious, however there were quite a few applications. There was definitely some disconnect in the recruitment process

I found the interview process to be the best I had completed. The assessment centre, which was after the video interview process, involved a small group of applicants completing group tasks and then a one on one interview. You feel you are being assessed more than you do in other assessment centres due to this small group size, but that also means that you know that you are being assessed instead of just being a face in the crowd.

We had to do an online application followed by a video interview as the second stage. The third stage was an assessment center which consist of various group tasks and a one-on-one interview. The final stage was background checks.

There were three stages. First was a written application, second was a video interview, and last was a three hour assessment centre with both a group and one-on-one interview.

How do I interact in small and large group situations? How so I overcome problems? How did I prioritise them and why did I do it that way?

Very broad questions in the online video interview process

It was a behavioural interview. Topics included: Change Leadership Communication working under pressure

Various behavioral and project management related questions.

Standard questions about experience, and how you manage things

1. Drivers behind applying 2. Skill sets I have to offer 3. How would I deal in specific situations 4. Challenges I have faced and how I overcame them

The questions asked were related to our background, who were are as people and what goals/ambitions we had in starting our careers. Organisation-specific questions about our roles, the work we will be doing and what the organisation stands for were also asked.

Questions were based on experiences where qualities such as leadership, creativity, and equality were shown. Other questions revolved around why we had applied at the LXRA. They were to show qualities of a good and fair team player, rather than actual experience.

What I wanted to get out of the program? How I thought I could contribute to the program

Project specific scenarios, what I can bring to the company. Lots of questions regarding leadership and emotional awareness.

Behavioral questions regarding how we have dealt with certain situations/ what impact we have had on society and people around us through our lives.

The online video interview can be quite confronting, so make sure you practice and think of questions they may ask ahead of time so you can prepare your responses

Show that you are prepared to learn and step outside of your comfort zone. Also, be positive.

I would recommend having a sound knowledge about the works, current projects, alliances and constant updates based around LXRA. If successful to making it to the assessment centre, let your gregarious personality shine! If you've made it here, you've got the grades already, now this is the part where you as an individual is chosen!

Be honest, know about the organisation beforehand and their values.

Definitely be confident in your abilities; you never know what they are looking for, and what you can offer for the team. Preparing for applying, put your best foot forward, and show who you truly are.

Learn what the company does and know their projects

Do some research on the projects, it is helpful to understand these and some of what goes into bringing them to fruition. Definitely learn how to best present yourself in terms of key attributes and marketing/tailoring your experience to the role. Learn how to best sell yourself in a group interview environment. Efficiency is key

Ride the wave, it can be tedious but the end result far outweighs and small issues

Definitely gather as much info as you can about the company when preparing your application.

Be honest and prepared to talk about why you want to work for government organisation instead of a public company.

Learn a little about the company and have good questions prepared

Learn the STAR method of answering questions in interviews.

Be yourself. Read and get to know as much as you can about your role and what you can offer to the position. Also pay attention to detail and don't provide standard responses.

Don't try too hard. It's obvious to employers that student's are trying to be "professional". Walk in with a smile, a straight posture and shake everyone's hand.

Learn the values

Have a clear understanding of why you're applying for the company. Also having a clear understanding of what the company does. (If you're having trouble getting your head around try and ask a current employee)

Candidates can best prepare by doing their research, and thoroughly understand what the authority is, why they do what they do and also how they execute it. They are very open in their process so this information isn't hard to find.

Prepare some examples of leadership, problem solving and people management. Have several examples for each from different areas of your life. Don't be afraid to sell yourself. No doubt you have done amazing things that potential employers will love.. but they will never know if you don't tell them.

Provide solid examples of your experience and work to answer the interview questions. Flesh them out and demonstrate your problem solving ability, overall they should have substance.
