Do you enjoy watching how company-specific news and current events impact the financial markets? Like solving puzzles and working competitively with a team to win? SIG's Graduate Buy-side Research Program is an opportunity to transfer that passion into a successful career.
SIGSydney is on the lookout for bright, friendly students who are interested in the world around them to join our Graduate Buy-side Research Analyst Program starting in January 2022.
SIG is one of the world's largest market makers, with a unique approach to trading, technology, and research. While this background puts us at the top of our game, what really makes us successful is our quantitative approach to decision making and the collaboration between our employees.
Graduate Buy-side Research Analyst Program
Our Research Analysts work with senior analysts and traders to identify trading opportunities in the equity and options markets. From providing real-time opinions on breaking news to in-depth company analysis, Research Analysts have a constant impact on our trading strategies.
As a Buy-side Research Analyst, you will be responsible for finding opportunities that other market participants may not be capitalizing on, either by discovering new information or considering existing knowledge from a different perspective. You will be embedded in a sector-focused trading desk and work collaboratively with traders who rely heavily on the analysis you provide to make trading decisions.
As a graduate, you can expect on-the-job training and to have a direct impact on the business almost immediately.
Always Learning
At SIG, we believe that there is always something to learn and that ideas can come from anywhere, whether you are one of the founders or fresh out of university. Our focus on education has given us the reputation of having best-in-class development in the industry. As a Buy-side Research Analyst, you will have a personalised learning program and will attend finance classes with our graduate traders.

Successful candidates typically have…
Our Edge
Interview Process
Apply -> Quantitative Assessment -> Case Study -> Interview -> Job Offer
We hire on a rolling basis and will lose roles when we have achieved our hiring needs. Therefore we recommend applicants apply early.
While we have made many adjustments in response to COVID-19, SIG is still defined by our commitment to collaboration, education, and community. We have every hope and intention to continue sending our graduate Equity Research Analysts to the US for training, we recognize that it is impossible to guarantee this part of the program during the pandemic. We will only resume international travel when it is safe for our employees to do so. In the event international travel is not possible, our new analysts will receive the same high-quality education that is typical of SIG's Graduate Equity Research Analyst Program in Sydney rather than the US.
We don't post salary ranges externally so any salary estimate you see listed on a third-party website was not provided by SIG and may not be accurate.
SIG is not accepting unsolicited resumes from search firms. All resumes submitted by search firms to any employee at SIG via-email, the Internet or directly without a valid written search agreement will be deemed the sole property of SIG, and no fee will be paid in the event the candidate is hired by SIG."
My responsibility is to help our traders gain an advantage in the markets in a few ways, such as recommending trades on breaking news, determining how information is disseminated, and providing valuation and analysis on situations in the markets. I try to understand what factors are driving price movements and ensure that our opinions are reflected in products that we trade.
Most of the time is intellectually stimulating with fun/interesting challenges on most days.
Day to day responsibilities include providing opinions on breaking news, preparing for events that we can trade on, and providing opinions to trades.

Trading
Susquehanna is a global quantitative trading firm where you will learn something new every day and solve problems that have never been solved before.
I was given the opportunity to dive headfirst into the complex trading systems and start adding new functionality.
There is less micro-management compared to other companies, and there is a lot of room to grow and learn from more senior co-workers.
Everyday we're provided with breakfast snacks, multiple lunch options, and a cornucopia of pick-me-up treats.
Best training program any grad can receive ever. The effort and resources which go into you are unrivaled.
Compensation is very competitive, reviewed frequently, and portion is tied to the success of the business as a whole.
Working at Susquehanna can be very challenging and sometimes quite tiring.
Environment is more fast-paced and high-pressure which isn't for everyone.
The hours for researchers and traders are not very flexible as they are tied to market hours.
Pretty much no fluidity or choice in being able to move around desks
Generally, you take on more responsibility and coverage as you gain more experience at the firm. SIG doesn't have a structured title process like other financial firms (e.g. if you start as a trader or equity analyst, your role stays the same)
