Communities are fundamental. Whether around the corner or across the globe, they provide a foundation, a sense of place and of belonging. That's why at Stantec, we always design with community in mind.

We care about the communities we serve—because they're our communities too. We're designers, engineers, scientists, and project managers, innovating together at the intersection of community, creativity, and client relationships. Balancing these priorities results in projects that advance the quality of life in communities across the globe.

About the role:

Your long-term career with one of the top ten design firms in the world starts here.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Engineer with a Bachelor of either Computer Science, Environmental Science or Mechanical Engineering, or practical experience within Building Services Engineering to join our established Sydney Sustainability team.

As a member of our global community of driven, passionate, and smart professionals, you’ll have a chance to grow and develop as a future leader and innovator, work with other colleagues who offer fresh perspectives, and learn the foundation of engineering, planning and consulting in the client environment.

Day to day tasks would involve:

  • Assist Senior and Project Engineers
  • Assist in Project meetings
  • Assist with delivering projects
  • Report and specification writing
  • Adhere to professional standards, ethics and Stantec quality procedures
  • Contribute to our company culture

As a graduate with Stantec, you will have opportunities that come only with working for a true Global consultancy:

  • A global developing professionals network
  • Firm-wide online specialist knowledge group
  • Access to global industry leaders through our Practice Leader network
  • Ability to work on projects across geographies
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Ongoing mentoring, technical support and encouragement

It couldn't be easier beginning your career in engineering with Stantec. As an Engineering Australia Professional Development Partner, we'll pay your membership fees and assist you to select the right mentor to fast track your path to registration. You'll have the chance to work on leading-edge projects, fully supported by our comprehensive graduate development programme.

About you

You'll need one of the qualifications mentioned above but just as important is to have gained some modelling experience during an internship or previous work experience, ideally using IES and FirstRate or similar. We'd also like you to be familiar with the Green Star sustainability rating tool.
You'll be as committed as we are to improving the world we live in, seizing the environmental challenges that we all face and coming up with solutions that will benefit generations to come. Our graduates demonstrate personal leadership qualities and thrive in an environment in which they are challenged and expected to take increasing responsibility and accountability for client service, technical delivery and project outcomes.

Pros and cons of working at Stantec Australia

Pros

  • The best things about working at my company are the culture and the level of support that I receive from colleagues, and the Graduate program that Stantec offers.

  • Working at Stantec provides me with various opportunities to learn and grow with multidisciplinary teams.

  • The culture in the office is inclusive and diverse. There are many cultural events held in the office, building a great base for staff to have fun and be social.

  • Good team; I like the work that I do, and I have reasonable working hours as a grad, absorbing a lot of experience and knowledge early in my career.

  • It is not just about finishing the workload at the end of the day but also focusing on other development such as leadership and public speaking by joining DPG and Toastmasters.

Cons

    • The situation of my team overall is not good, and they have limited work to provide to graduates.

    • WFH culture has gotten more inflexible. And the associated annoyance of working in consultancy is filling out timesheets

    • Lack of recognition for work that I do and being overlooked for opportunities that other grads get.

    • I would like to work on different disciplines. For example, someone from the transport team working with the traffic or Geotech people to do some of their day-to-day work.

    • The salary for this position is ok but not ideal, especially if you are living in a big city like Sydney.
