Stockland’s Graduate program:

As a top Graduate employer, our program offers you a permanent role that takes you on a 2-year journey.  The experiences you’ll have along the way will help you to develop the key capabilities you need to kick-start a successful career. Those experiences include the coaching and support of a dedicated Sponsor, tailored learning events on topics such as innovation and commercial acumen, connecting with Graduates from around the country and much more.

The opportunity

You will undertake four, six-month rotations within different areas of People and Culture. Two of your rotations will be pre-determined, where you will work with the People Services team – who provide HR Shared Services to managers, employees and other parts of People & Culture – and the People Analytics team – who analyse our People Data in order to shape the services we offer.

With the support of your dedicated Sponsor, your other two rotations will be chosen by you and may include opportunities to work with a People & Culture Business Partner, in various parts of the Organisational Development team (such as Talent & Engagement, Diversity & Inclusion or Leadership & Learning) or with the HR Projects team.

Whilst your experiences in each rotation will differ, your Graduate experience will enable you to positively impact the employee experience and the effectiveness of the People & Culture team.

Responsibilities are varied, including:

  • Assist with the implementation of our People Plan, which describes the People & Culture team’s priorities in support of the broader Stockland business strategy
  • Support the coordination of People & Culture activities and initiatives, such as annual performance and remuneration reviews, employee engagement surveys and more.
  • Support the production of annual, monthly and quarterly People metrics to the Board, Business Unit Leadership Teams and external reporting agencies
  • Contribute to Stockland learning and development activities, including design, delivery, data analysis and administrative support
  • Provide advice and guidance to managers and employees, encouraging a ‘self-service’ approach where possible
  • Ensure integrity of employee data across the various P&C systems
  • Contribute to team success by working collaboratively with team members, sharing ideas, knowledge and experience, and seeking to learn from others.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders across Stockland

Requirements:

  • You are currently studying for or have completed a suitable degree within 24 months of the program start date, in February 2022.
  • We are excited to consider candidates from any degree background, including but not limited to Human Resources Management, Business, Social Sciences, Arts & Humanities and much more.
  • You have achieved a 60% grade point average (GPA) or above either to date or overall in your degree subject.
  • Due to the permanent nature of this role, we can only accept applications from Citizens or Permanent Residents of Australia or New Zealand.

There are some BAU tasks that we have to do on a day-to-day basis, which is understandably tedious but important for the continuation of the business. However, in the teams that I have worked with, we dedicate a lot of time to building new tools, work on projects, and make our work more streamlined and automated. I have been able to learn a lot about automating processes on two cloud providers as well as on local machines. There are exciting projects all around and it has been very true that no two days have been the same. There is a huge innovation culture and innovation is appreciated and encouraged.

The graduate program was more ad-hoc tasks. It would have been a lot better if there were tasks that I could take ownership of.

Pros and cons of working at Stockland

Pros

  • My needs and my career goals have been listened to in conversations and accommodations have been provided to me to make those possible. There is a great graduate development program that has helped me grow a lot both personally and professionally.

  • The people are friendly, supportive and always willing to help.

  • Really good flexibility in terms of working arrangements.

  • Plenty of opportunities to learn and grow.

  • The inclusive and flexible culture that Stockland offers has been amazing.

Cons

    • Working hours/load can be a lot at certain times.

    • The office space is quite outdated as only a couple floors have been renovated.

    • There are not a lot of benefits/promotions that Stockland offers, especially from third parties.

    • Career progression is a bit slower due to the size of the company.

    • Sometimes, the workload outweighs the pay bracket.
