Job Description

Our Design chapter has a key role of shaping our product design direction making the "affordable desirable" and offering products that are commercial and fit for purpose, exciting our customers every day! They deliver high quality and on-trend product designs across apparel, home and general merchandise.

We are looking for a Junior Graphic Designer/Design Assistant to join us – this is a fantastic opportunity to kickstart your design career and gain experience in a commercial design environment working alongside experienced graphic, fashion and textile design specialists!

Support the wider design team in projects that will deliver high quality and on-trend licensed product designs. You’ll be responsible for:

  • Project management – support the admin and sign off components from the concept through to the completion stages
  • Coordinating product samples and design details according to critical paths and deadlines
  • Communication with designers, suppliers and licensors - providing a vital link in the production process
  • Amendments and artwork set up

Qualifications

This role works at the heart of our busy design and wider buying team, offering excellent exposure and a pathway to the commercial design process and craft!

You’ll be someone who enjoys a varied role and is excited to assist across multiple work projects. Your strong attention to detail and design skills will see you working at a pace to help deliver to tight deadlines and critical paths. Your can-do attitude and team approach will see you thrive in our collaborative environment.

  • A design degree qualification
  • Graphic design experience. Licensing, fashion or home/general merchandise experience is highly beneficial
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Superb time management skills and the ability to work towards tight deadlines
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills as you will be dealing with multiple stakeholders across the business
  • Illustrator and Photoshop experience

Pros and cons of working at The Warehouse Group

Pros

  • The workplace environment and the people.

  • Pay was fantastic, as they did not even need to pay us.

  • Great HR recruiters, very helpful and always respond so fast.

  • Excellent, I really believe I have made myself better for future roles, and acquired lots of areas to self-reflect on.

  • The flexible work environment, the willingness to always help and guide.

Cons

    • The varied workload, but this was only an issue in the first few weeks.

    • I did have to move desks often, and it was difficult at times when my mentors sat further away based on the hot desking.

    • For future roles, it will be great with the job experience, but I believe there won't be much development in my role as after the internship is done there isn't room for us to be employees.

    • "I cannot specifically remember questions, but it was a lot of self-reflection to see how I could base myself in this role.

    • One final session on what us as interns did well, and what should our next steps be in our employment in any business.
