Location Planning Chapter Member opportunities (permanent and 6-month fixed term)

These are fantastic foundation roles for graduates looking to kick off their careers and grow their analytical expertise.  Working alongside talented team members you will gain exposure to the world of retail and supply chain whilst playing a key role in delivering value to our customers.

The Warehouse Group (TWG) has become a Kiwi household name, and we proudly recognise the role that we play in communities throughout New Zealand.  We are the largest general merchandise retailer in NZ with over $3 billion in sales, and employing over 10,000 people across The Warehouse, Warehouse Stationery, and Noel Leeming. To ensure we can adapt quickly to ever-changing customer needs, we’ve adopted an agile structure with a focus on collaboration, productivity and speed-to-market.

The Role(s)

Our Location Planning chapter members make sure that our stores have the right product at the right time in the right quantity so that our customers can complete their shopping mission when they walk through our doors.

This involves engaging with the commercial planning team to make sure we are set up to achieve their financial targets while also working with the Integrated supply chain team to optimise our stock flow without causing congestion.

Your day could include anything from: data extraction and analysis, identifying optimal product depth levels, allocating orders to meet upcoming promotional demand, through to resolving stock flow pain points for our supply chain.

You will be joining a cohort of Location Planning Chapter Members that are spread across the wider business, so there is the comradery, knowledge sharing, and learning/development opportunities that comes hand in hand with joining our Location Planning chapter.

About You

We can train on all the above, but for us attitude, mindset and a willingness to learn is everything. You will have a passion and curiosity for diving into the numbers and data and uncovering insights through sound analysis, along with finding ways to be more efficient, through automation or simply questioning business processes.  Our wish list also includes:

  • Preference for Business, Economics, Retail, or Supply Chain qualification
  • Previous business analysis experience is a bonus
  • Prior retail experience would also be a plus
  • Excellent communication skills – you will be collaborating with diverse cross functional teams
  • A knack for numbers, numerical and analytically minded
  • Intermediate Excel skills
  • Highly resilient and adaptable working in our fast-paced dynamic environment
  • Customer-first delivery at the heart of everything you do

Creation of jobs, screening, shadowing lots of different areas such as phone screening, engaging in a wide array of meetings, solving queries from store managers. Editing job advertisements, working on a self-mangaged project.

My daily tasks involved basic admin work. Once the admin tasks were completed each morning my day to day responsibility's would change depending on what project I was working on. It focused most on sustainably & improving customer experience.

Pros and cons of working at The Warehouse Group

Pros

  • The workplace environment and the people.

  • Pay was fantastic, as they did not even need to pay us.

  • Great HR recruiters, very helpful and always respond so fast.

  • Excellent, I really believe I have made myself better for future roles, and acquired lots of areas to self-reflect on.

  • The flexible work environment, the willingness to always help and guide.

Cons

    • The varied workload, but this was only an issue in the first few weeks.

    • I did have to move desks often, and it was difficult at times when my mentors sat further away based on the hot desking.

    • For future roles, it will be great with the job experience, but I believe there won't be much development in my role as after the internship is done there isn't room for us to be employees.

    • "I cannot specifically remember questions, but it was a lot of self-reflection to see how I could base myself in this role.

    • One final session on what us as interns did well, and what should our next steps be in our employment in any business.
