Your New Role

The Technology Data grad program has been designed for you to get straight into a defined role and team for an extended period, but still not lose the perks of a grad program, including the connection to a larger cohort and direct access to our leadership team.

You'll spend 12 months in a team with Data industry experts, building a well-rounded understanding of how that technology function works. You'll be surrounded by leaders who are invested in your development and focused on providing tailored experiences to match your determination and drive to explore their area of expertise.

What the Technology (Data) Grad Program will offer you?

  • The program is designed to nurture and advance talent in the field of data, offering a career journey that focuses specifically on leveraging data across various aspects of the organisation.
  • You will gain a comprehensive understanding of the diverse functions within the Westpac Group, providing insights into how data drives different aspects of operations
  • As part of the team, you will participate in driving the data capability, growth, and competencies across the organisation to deliver great outcomes and service to our customers.

What you’ll need to succeed

Choose our Specialist Data Program if you’re clear on your future role in data. You will need a STEM degree and background. Then, we will provide you with a technical, capability-focused program to build specific skills through hands-on experience in a specific function of tech at Westpac.

You will also need:

  • To be in in your final year of study of a university degree, or
  • You can have completed an undergraduate or postgraduate degree, but it must be no more than three years ago.
  • You also need to be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or an Australian Permanent Resident when you apply.

A lot of admin work - booking meetings, writing minutes, making presentation packs, liaising with eas to organise higher-ups attendance. a lot of work is given to you that others in the team would rather not do - the important thing is to have a good attitude regardless of how passionate you are about it as that attitude is what people will talk about when you roll off/apply for internal roles.

Pros

  • The quality of the work and the people you work with.

  • Huge amount of opportunity to learn and grow.

  • Rotating around between teams ensures I am learning lots and meeting heaps of people.

  • Great extracurricular opportunities to be involved in - from employee action groups to Toastmasters clubs.

Cons

    • Sometimes it is difficult to contact/work with departments outside of your area.

    • Because it's so big, it's very slow to move with change and onboarding to systems.

    • Having set days to come into the office. Hard to find a job after graduate program finishes.

    • Too many systems.

    • We are big, old and clunky. This means things can take ages to actually get done, and there can be heaps of red tape.
