Eligibility
You must be Australian or New Zealand Citizen OR an Australian Permanent Resident AND be in your final year of study of a university degree OR completed an undergraduate or postgraduate degree no more than 3 years ago.

Youโ€™ll need to be available to start with us as a permanent employee in February 2024.

Our Technology (Rotational) Program

  • Build and design software, applications, platforms, and networks. See your contributions be released in production environments and used by Westpac Group customers.
  • Learn more about cloud capability, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data analytics, engineering, dev ops and automation.
  • Improve your programming language fluency by working directly with experts. Apply processes and methods to analyse and solve business problems.

This is a flexible program (12 to 24 months) consisting of a maximum of four 6-month rotations across the various teams that make up our tech function. To help guide your start with us, we connect with you to understand your strengths and where you would like to grow. We use this to help guide your initial rotation in our tech function, from there, your rotations, journey, and the opportunities you decide to tackle are entirely up to you! Naturally, we provide support and guidance as you navigate your own path.

Ultimately, we provide you the flexibility after rotation one to shape the remaining 18 months on program to suit your ambitions. We will also support your transition to a permanent role and career with our tech teams once you find a role and team you love.

Graduates can experience rotations from a curated list of opportunities, this is here to support you as you navigate our various teams. Or you can map your own pathway and find the right role and rotation yourself. Either way, youโ€™ll find the right technology flavours to suit your learning ambitions. Rotations could include cyber security, data science, application development, service management, strategy, and architecture.

This program is designed to provide breadth in your learning, development and ultimately your experience. Youโ€™ll be supported by leaders who are invested in your development, and peers who help you to explore and maximise the learning experience. Some examples of the roles our former graduates are holding include business analysts, security analysts, data analysts, engineers, solutions architects, developers, change and transformation managers and many more opportunities.

At Westpac youโ€™ll be part of a group that is committed to building a sustainable future and encourages inclusion, diversity, and community involvement.

You should join our rotational technology program if you love all things tech and have a STEM degree & background. This program is perfect if you want breadth of experience. We will provide you with a range of hands-on experiences and skills that will leave you confident in your career journey beyond.

A lot of admin work - booking meetings, writing minutes, making presentation packs, liaising with eas to organise higher-ups attendance. a lot of work is given to you that others in the team would rather not do - the important thing is to have a good attitude regardless of how passionate you are about it as that attitude is what people will talk about when you roll off/apply for internal roles.

Pros and cons of working at Westpac Group

Pros

  • The quality of the work and the people you work with.

  • Huge amount of opportunity to learn and grow.

  • Flexibility, atmosphere.

  • Rotating around between teams ensures I am learning lots and meeting heaps of people.

  • Great extracurricular opportunities to be involved in - from employee action groups to Toastmasters clubs.

Cons

    • Sometimes it is difficult to contact/work with departments outside of your area.

    • Because it's so big, it's very slow to move with change and onboarding to systems.

    • Having set days to come into the office. Hard to find a job after graduate program finishes.

    • Too many systems.

    • We are big, old and clunky. This means things can take ages to actually get done, and there can be heaps of red tape.
