Join our team of intelligent and collaborative Changemakers and make your mark on tomorrow! In this role, you’ll work with the Contaminated Land & Soil Remediation Team. You will develop your future-ready skills and make an impact in our increasingly urbanised and densified environment. As greenfield sites become scarce, there is a need to rehabilitate existing sites for new uses. The effective mitigation of potential risks to human health and the environment is also a key performance measure for many businesses. In dealing with the impact of site contamination, we are increasingly focused on sustainable solutions that support long-term human health and environmental values. At WSP, we are committed to nurturing and developing the next generation of diverse Changemakers through mentorship and structured development programs. Being part of an inclusive global firm, you will have access to a variety of opportunities, and the support you need to progress your career and make your mark from day one.

Our Environment team is solving some of Australia’s biggest challenges. We are preserving and improving our built and natural environments, finding ways to use and re-use our resources, and building safe and future ready infrastructure to support places where communities can thrive.

As a Graduate, your ability to learn and grow is our number one priority. You will be inducted into a two-year blended graduate program that will enhance your professional, personal and relationship-building skills, providing you with a wide range of development opportunities on your journey from graduate to emerging professional and beyond. Visit our website for more information.

About you:

You will need to be analytical, curious, and passionate about continuing your learning. This role will suit someone who is able to think critically, ask questions, and take responsibility for finding solutions. You will also need to be comfortable engaging with clients and collaborators, partnering with them to understand their needs.

So what does a day in a life of a Graduate look like? This opportunity will give you exposure to a broad range of activities as you start your journey with us. Duties will include:

  • Collecting field data (groundwater, soil, vapour) to support contaminated land management assessments
  • Managing and interpreting environmental data for inclusion in assessment reports.
  • Working collaboratively in small project delivery teams (~5) within a larger group (~50).
  • Supervising contractors on sites (e.g. drillers)

To be considered please ensure you have the following:

  • A Bachelor’s degree relevant to our industry e.g. Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, or Hydrogeology
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Can demonstrate a genuine interest in the industry. Some experience in the related field will be highly regarded
  • Hold a Full Driving License
  • Have full working rights in Australia

How to apply:

Express your interest by clicking on the 'apply now' button. If you are an entry-level Graduate, we would ask that you include a 1-page cover letter with your resume explaining your interest in our industry. Your application will be treated in strict confidence.

Pros and cons of working at WSP Australia

Pros

  • Flexible work arrangements: "Very flexible, I can pick my hours as long as I complete the set hours by the end of the week."

  • Supportive team culture: "The people are very nice and kind here. They care very much about my well-being."

  • Opportunities to work on diverse projects: "WSP works on a broad variety of projects, leading to diverse and rewarding work."

  • Work-life balance: "Flexible work hours, lots of people have different work arrangements and it all works fine."

  • Learning and development: "The best thing about working at WSP is the amount of exposure junior engineers get working on different aspects of engineering projects."

Cons

    • High turnover rate: "The high turnover rate."

    • Workload imbalances: "The hours and expectations can be very consuming, and sometimes the pressure of utilisation is a burden."

    • Inconsistent team dynamics: "Team dynamic, salaries, progression differs from team to team and depending on your manager."

    • Career progression: "The progression/promotion process is quite time-consuming and a lot of effort. There doesn't appear to be a lot of flexibility to finish your graduate role early"

    • Graduates on the same pay: "I don't think we do bonuses, and my last pay rise moved me to the same rate as all other 2nd year graduates, most of whom I have more experience. However, I did receive a mid-year pay rise last week, which I appreciate"
