The role provides an excellent foundation to the investment industry and allows engagement with clients, asset managers and industry bodies.

The Role:

  • Working with senior analysts and consultants to provide high-quality investment advice to large institutional clients, including superannuation funds, redundancy and long service leave schemes, private wealth, endowments and foundations
  • Engage with various industry participants including fund executives and investment managers
  • Develop technical knowledge of investment across asset classes, Willis Towers Watson investment processes, other house views and best practice
  • Assist in drafting reports for clients on a range of different investment topics which include asset class reviews, investment manager selection, investment strategy, ESG and portfolio construction
  • Build strong relationships internally and collaborate effectively on cross-functional teams
  • Support other team members in carrying out quantitative analysis, assisting in the construction and delivery of client reports and contributing to a collaborative and inclusive team culture
  • Establish and develop professional relationships with clients
  • Liaise with members of the wider investment team (both locally and offshore) in order to gain the necessary information to provide value-adding solutions to clients
  • Co-ordinate the workflow of client assignments, which includes timely escalation of any issues to consultants
  • Support achievement of our team’s financial goals by working efficiently and identifying and raising with colleagues any process improvement suggestions

The Requirements:

  • A university degree in an area that has helped you develop your analytical and communication skills, such as commerce, finance, science, engineering or arts
  • A natural affinity with people and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong project management and organisational skills, with the ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously
  • The ability to utilise your written and verbal communication skills to formulate and present recommendations clearly and concisely
  • Attention to detail and integrity in the work you perform
  • Strong ability to balance lateral thinking with pragmatism in order to solve problems
  • Strong analytical skills, objective thought processes and strong numeracy
  • A strong desire to develop a career in investment
  • Commitment to completing the further relevant studies, such as CFA or actuarial qualifications (for which Willis Towers Watson provides generous support)
  • Competency in Microsoft Excel will be highly regarded

It is essential to provide a cover letter outlining your interest in this role and a copy of your most recent academic transcript.  Candidates must have either Australian or New Zealand citizenship or an appropriate permanent working visa.

Pros and cons of working at WTW

Pros

  • Welcoming place to work, and very understanding superiors when it comes to taking a little extra time to learn processes and the work. Legitimate incentives to continue study with pay rises and study leave.

  • Extremely welcoming and friendly people and team culture. Everyone is very approachable, easy to talk to and understanding of each other's circumstances.

  • I believe the best thing about working here is close knit client teams and the inclusivity of these teams.

  • Having an employer who wants to invest in you and help your professional development.

  • Flexibility, hybrid working, company social events - celebrating things like wear it purple day

Cons

    • Nature of the business, but work tends to clump a touch through the year, some months are crazily busy whereas others are quiet.

    • The inconsistent nature of consulting and meeting client deadlines. Can have the occasional lull of work with little to do, and other times have multiple competing jobs requiring many extra hours to complete.

    • I think the worst thing can be the technology at times. IT systems or devices not working.

    • Team with no set office days which mean it's difficult to create connections with co-workers.

    • Environment can be too quiet at times.
