At the moment I have not finished my graduate engineer position, but i have seen that John Holland is always trying to promote its stuff to next available position which is good sign.

The graduate program has multiple rotation opportunities enabling graduates to various aspects of the company which includes tendering, delivery and technical engineering skills. At the end of the program there is an opportunity to work as site engineers and start a career at delivery.

I have already accelerated my graduate program by 6 months, and have been promoted to a Site engineer. I am currently perfecting am craft and will be pushing for Project Engineer in the next 12-18 months. I have made my career aspirations clear to my senior leaders and they are on board with helping track that progress.

The progression between roles doesn't have a clear time or experience checklist you can work off, some people promoted very early and others taking many years to reach a position. This makes it frustrating to plan your career out with the company. I feel that if they provided clearer guidelines, it would prevent employees moving to other companies in order to gain these promotions.

If you can prove to your manager that you are operating above your current role, the possibility of moving up is fairly high.

Progression appears to be straight forward and attainable for most graduate engineers. The basic form of progression involves; 1) undergraduate 2) graduate (1st & 2nd year) 3) site engineer 4) project engineer 5) senior project engineer 6) project manager/construction manager 7) project director

There are no incentives for promotion possibilities during the graduate program. Graduate Coordinators are adamant that graduate completes their 2-year program.

The business being so large and involved in many projects has room for people to be promoted and take on new challenges. When you have finished your graduate program, you have the opportunity to become a site engineer and then to progress further.
