Culture at Stantec New Zealand

8.6
8.6 rating for Culture, based on 54 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
In general, the office culture is good. I am relaxed and content at work most of the time, though I can get stressed with my work as well. I have support from my team lead, my mentor, my civil engineering team, and from the other grads. We have a social club and a developing professionals group, which host social and development events both during and after work hours. These are good events for socialising and learning. My team doesn't really interact outside of work hours - once in a blue moon we might go to a bar after work on a Friday for social drinks. In terms of structure, locally we have an office manager and we have team leads for each discipline. We also have a regional lead and the senior executive team who will visit our office a few times throughout the year. In terms of cooperation and teamwork, we form project teams both within our office and with others across the country, using Teams for meetings. In general the teamwork is good, and we have an environment that encourages feedback with there are issues to work through. In terms of socialising amongst colleagues, we have a morning and afternoon break where we do the Stuff quiz in the lunch room. We also meet to play cards during lunch. People from across the business join, it is a good way to have a chat with someone who isn't in your team.

I really enjoy the company culture in the office. The seniors and team leaders seem to create an atmosphere that feels like a safe place to learn and encourage professional growth. The seniors are good at providing support and affirmation when you are unsure as a grad. There also seems to be great team morale and office banter, which is always fun!

The in-office culture is very friendly and welcoming. People are super social and keen to chat. Meetings are usually pretty positive, and we have monthly branch meetings where we chat about office updates and celebrate successes in each team, and welcome new starts, etc. There is a pretty clear structure between graduates to senior principles, but most of the seniors are very friendly and you feel socially on a pretty even playing field. We usually feel pretty respected as grads. All of the seniors in my team are always willing to help with challenging work, and provide support and guidance. Outside of work, we do a lot of social activities as grads, and also as a whole company. The DPG and Social Club committees are both very active and we do lots of fun events and activities. The grads often catch up in other social events as well. We have fortnightly social club drinks in the office which is a fun way to catch up.

Stantec has set its values in putting people first, working on what is right, having a strong belief in teamwork and togetherness, and being driven to achieve excellence in delivery of the projects. As per my observation while being inside the company, everybody here are putting their efforts to stick to these values strictly.

Flexibility to work from home, everyone is super friendly

Office culture can be good some days but it can be very cliquey. Some people are very entitled which makes things hard to deal with. Other days it can be really good like we have ice cream days which increases culture. It is better in the summer. Nothing after work happens.

At current office, great work culture with no extreme hierarchical barriers. Lots of cooperation and teamwork in a comfortable and unrestrictive environment. Many socialising, networking, connecting and learning events hosted by the company and advertising of non-company events. Overall good company culture.

I think the culture is one of the best things here. There are multiple avenues for culture to happen such as our developing professionals group and also the social club so there are many events to socialize. In general the people are all super lovely/chatty too so the day to day culture is fun for me.

The company has a friendly culture, everyone is very social and encouraging of having a good work life balance, we have lots of social events outside work hours. I think that communication could be improved between the more senior and more junior staff to provide constructive feedback and contribute to the development of the graduate/junior staff.

The in office culture is extremely friendly and connected. You will never struggle to talk to upper management in a natural conversational way. Outside of the office there are plenty of opportunities for socialising in the company's social club and developing professionals group.
