Management at Stantec New Zealand

7.9
7.9 rating for Management, based on 48 reviews
How accessible are managers and do they make good mentors? You may want to address internal communication, performance feedback or praise and recognition.
I can have good conversations with my team lead, I could talk with the office manager or the regional lead if I felt I needed to. The executive team are making more of an effort to be a presence in offices around the country, mainly via email updates and sometimes by coming to work for a few days in different offices. I know other grads have mentoring relationships with managers - My mentor is a team lead for another discipline. I have monthly catchups with my team lead to discuss my progress and how I am tracking with my grad programme. He will share feedback with me from others that I have worked with on projects and will let us know when we get feedback from clients (usually good!). I have had a few cases where I have been made upset with how feedback (constructive criticism) has been presented to me by my team lead. My mentor was able to help me work through that and to put together a response to the feedback, but it didn't feel good at the time. I get positive affirmations from my team, one senior in particular will tell me I am doing a good job when I am completing tasks with him.

The managers seem to be very approachable and always make an effort to make time if you request. They are great mentors as they are affirming and always keen to give guidance.

I only really interact with my direct manager and they are good/kind and looks out for me but is also very very busy all the time so hard to get mentoring / direct managing from them

Line-manager is remote, therefore not so accessible in my own case, but my mentor is very good, approachable and always wish to help me with my career progression

The managers usually feel very accessible. We have an open seating plan which really encourages communication with seniors and leadership. Sometimes they are super busy and my manager can be hard to get hold of sometimes which can be challenging.

I see decisions make by the managers, but not much of feedback.

Would be better if my line manager had a technical background in geology Would be better if they were also a bit more approachable to discuss anxiety/stressful situations but there are others in the office/around me that I can talk to

Our managers are very helpful and considerate they are always available in the time of need. They also guide us and give suggestions to improve the quality of work during our meetings with them. Besides that they share the useful recourses to us from time to time that help to broaden our knowledge in the related fields. They are expecting us to keep in top of the projects we are working for that they are always ready to help.

The managers look after up to 10 people max. It really depends on who you get but everyone's really nice and friendly and they all genuinely care and want you to succeed.

They are good, there could be more support but they notice when you need space or help .

I've had 2 managers in my time here and both are extremely friendly and helpful. One is a little hard to reach because he is so busy but they have always taken any issues I've had seriously and I've always felt I can talk to them openly about anything. The more senior managers in the water team are also extremely lovely and personable, and always make sure to know the wider time.

This is a bit of a person dependent question, I think some managers have strong communication and relationships with their team and some not as much. I think in some instances ability to provide clear and constructive feedback when mistakes have been made has been lacking in a technical task sense. But for the most part managers are also encouraging and there to advocate on your behalf, especially in regard to things like hours and work life balance.

My team is small and growing so may be not representative of other teams, but manager is quite busy and you don't feel the best bothering them. However they are still a great mentor, and offer high quality feedback not infrequently.

Personally, my manager is amazing. They are very supportive especially when it comes to personal development and are always happy to guide.

They are very knowledgeable and experienced, but they often are so busy and relied on by others so much they don't really get time to mentor. I will say that every time I've asked, they will always give me their time, but often they are very very busy.

Internal communication is conducted very efficiently through teams and email, performance feedback with my line manager is done monthly, and praise and recognition for my work is at an acceptable level.
