What are your thoughts on pay and bonuses at your company?
I don't know how my salary compares with other grads at my level, it was stated in my contract that we are not allowed to discuss our pay. I also don't feel close enough with the other grads to discuss pay, it feels inappropriate at work and I don't see them outside of work. I don't know who to judge if I have a fair wage or if my salary increases are fair. I know I earn less than my partner - he is two years ahead of me at a different company in a similar engineering role, but I started my role with a higher qualification than him (post grad diploma along my BE hons). We don't have bonuses as far as I am aware. I am comfortable with my salary, I use about half to pay for rent, power, groceries, and use the bulk of the rest to grow my savings.

I am quite happy in terms of pay. I have only had a mid year review so far but am also happy with the bonus.

frustrating. told one thing and then see something completely different. misleading. I understand a business needs to be competitive and savvy but it is disappointing to be told x and receive y. new graduates are being paid a lot more so they will pass me after their pay rises. New graduates being paid more to start that those here for 2 years (after our raises which makes people want to leave). we are told all graduates get 2% mid years. I got ~0.6% and a ~1.5% (when told i would get 3% for my work) so I do not feel appreciated when others are getting a 3% instead. i wont be paid the same as a co worker is by the time i am at their experince level (ill be 10k behind them no matter what which is frustrating)

Pay seems standard for being a graduate engineer, never received a bonus though
Graduate, Auckland - 05 Aug 2024
I am not particularly satisfied with my pay as when I was hired I had 4 years previous experience in the industry. This has meant that I am able to take on far more responsibility than other graduates and I require a lot less training, given this the fact that I am being paid the same as the other graduates is frustrating, particularly because I have been told numerous times that pay is done on performance however that does not seem to be the case.

too low

Would want to know if gender-pay is an issue
Graduate, Nelson - 02 Aug 2024
The policy of pay is nice in our company we get reviewed in every six months. This helps us to be motivated towards our work.
Graduate, Wellington - 02 Aug 2024
Unsure on this - it doesn't meet the ENZ remuneration survey salaries, but I doubt our office is alone on that.

Whatever you see on Engineering NZ as the median salary is what you will get as a grad. I t should tell you on the prospele website when there is a vacancy too. It's pretty standard to get a raise at the end of the year but as a grad in your first 2 year you also get another bump that comes into effect in Julyish. The pay raise you get as a grad is up to 5k but most get less than that. FYI - salary transparency is not a thing here so technically you're not supposed to know or ask how much others get paid.

Its good but could always be more in this economy. Bonuses are heavily tax which makes it sad
Graduate, Lower Hutt - 02 Aug 2024
not too sure how to compare/know if good
Graduate, Christchurch - 02 Aug 2024
Pay is alright for a size of this firm. It probably needs to be a little better hearing what my peers are making at other big companies and the mid-year salary reviews are always very minor. I've had a few small bonuses in my time here which is nice.
Graduate, Auckland - 02 Aug 2024
Pay for a graduate is definitely competitive and with regular pay reviews. In terms of bonuses Im not sure how you get those here.
Graduate, Christchurch - 02 Aug 2024
Standard pay with frequent reviews based on industry average
Graduate, Auckland - 08 Nov 2023
I am quite happy with my pay, I believe it is on the higher end of the scale relative to similar positions. There are also bonuses available but I am not completely sure on them and believe they are targeted towards more experienced employees.

Pay is quite average, there are some graduates getting paid less than what I thought would be the normal considering the work they are able to do.
Graduate, Dunedin - 07 Nov 2023
Pay at the company is at an average market rate however would like to have more regular performance reviews and bonuses to increase my salary at a consistent rate
Graduate, Auckland - 02 Nov 2023
The pay was very low to begin with and rose in the first year, it is still below average for my city and with the cost of living so high it is difficult.

What are your company's best or most unusual perks? For example: free tickets, free dinners, moving expenses, taxis, pension, etc.
We get private health insurance, but I have found it difficult to organise as I was on a different plan prior to starting work. I am unsure if I am getting this benefit. There are staff discounts for various services, but I haven't really used them. I have a work phone, laptop , and PPE which I can also use outside of work. We get a yearly 'gift' ie merch. Last year we got a nice travel bag, we also get t-shirts for events (like Pride month and for community work days). We have social events via the social club - a very small deduction (like a few dollars) is taken from your salary to pay into the social club fund. Those events are free for members to attend.

I really appreciate health insurance perk is great as it is very helpful with my glasses and contact lenses. I also think the leave in advance/salary sacrifice set up and flexibility it is nice and is definitely a perk knowing it is an option.

You can purchase up to an additional 4 weeks leave on top of the standard 4 weeks you get by default for working for a year. At the end of the year the company give company branded items like coffee mugs, bags, clothing (part of the company policy) so we don't things like chocolates or a Christmas ham or wine as your Christmas gift. You get the odd catered lunch event like once or twice a month. Every office has a coffee machine. Southern cross health and income insurance. Will service. When you get more senior you get a company phone which is an iphone.
