The Team

The Superannuation team is responsible for the regulation of superannuation trustees and funds to ensure compliance with the law and promotion of good outcomes for consumers. The team’s role focuses on the conduct obligations of trustees in their dealings with consumers, including disclosure, advice, and complaints. This involves surveillances undertaken by ASIC proactively on a thematic basis and in response to breach reports, reports of misconduct or referrals, formulating enforcement referrals, publishing guidance, providing advice in relation to policy, considering applications for relief from legislative requirements, and engaging with relevant stakeholders.

The Role

As a Lawyer/Regulatory Analyst you will be required to:

  • assess disclosures relevant to the superannuation industry
  • undertake risk-based supervision (e.g. surveillance, review, and monitoring) of superannuation trustees to ensure compliance with the law
  • analyse relevant legislation and regulatory guides and advise on a range of policy and technical issues relating to the superannuation industry
  • conduct research and analysis on emerging issues in the superannuation industry, including the characteristics, behaviour and needs of financial consumers and investors
  • contribute to and write reports, presentations and briefings for senior management, external stakeholders and industry
  • develop relationships and liaise with internal and external stakeholders
  • if appropriately authorised and when requested, provide or contribute to legal advice on surveillance or regulatory matters, including assessment of applications for relief from regulatory obligations.

As a valued member of the team, you will also:

  • undertake additional responsibilities or tasks as required
  • work professionally, positively and cooperatively as part of ASIC, and model the values of Accountability, Professionalism and Teamwork
  • undertake reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of others in the workplace that may be affected by your actions.

About you

We are looking for people with an inquisitive and analytical mindset, ideally with experience with quantitative and qualitative data. You have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, including law, finance or economics. You will have understanding of the Australian financial services sector, including potentially product management, operations and systems, client service or compliance. You have strong verbal and written communication skills and enjoy building, maintaining and utilising stakeholder networks. You enjoy working in both an independent setting and a collaborative environment.
